It’s often confusing to think about nutrition and diet. The two seem to go hand in hand like they should, but sometimes you can’t tell the difference between the two. Let me tell you what I mean. Nutrition and diet are two different things, but they also are very much connected to each other.

Nutrition is defined as a way of eating to maintain a healthy condition. That means you should be eating a balanced diet that contains everything necessary for your body to function properly. A balanced diet isn’t just eating fruits and vegetables, though those are very important for a healthy eating plan. What I’m talking about are foods that are high in nutrients but low in calories. Some examples of these would be lean meats, whole-grain breads and cereals, and healthy eating desserts such as ice cream and fresh fruit.

Dieting on the other hand is simply what you do when you’re trying to lose weight and maintain a healthy diet. It also includes portion control, as well as eating small amounts of certain foods more than other foods. It is typically paired with exercise and some form of activity. When combined correctly, dieting and nutrition can have amazing effects in helping you reach your goals.

The problem with dieting or even nutrition is that it can cause you to consume more calories and fat than you’re burning up. This is because the goal of dieting is to limit calories and limit fat. By reducing both of these factors, you can burn off calories that you’re not using and possibly even eliminate weight. One challenge dieters and nutritionists face is making the changes to a healthier diet and lifestyle.

If you’re someone who frequently overeats and can’t seem to stop, then nutrition and diet may not be able to help. If you eat too many calories, then you become overfull and are likely to eat more calories than you normally would. Overeating and weight gain are the results. Your body has no way of telling you to eat less, so instead it goes into panic mode and starts to store all of the calories as fat.

If you want to reduce these fats, then you need to learn how to eat healthy fats and carbohydrates instead of processed carbohydrates and unhealthy foods. This means cutting out trans fats, hydrogenated oils, margarine, butter, cookies, fast food, junk food, and anything else that’s labeled as “healthy” or “low fat”. Replace these unhealthy foods with healthy fats and carbohydrates and you’ll be amazed at how much weight you begin to lose.

As well as making necessary dietary and fitness changes, you will also need to get moving and implement an exercise program. Not only will an exercise program to help you lose weight, but it will help you to strengthen your heart. Cardiovascular exercises increase your metabolism and help you burn fat even while you’re at rest. There is no doubt that nutrition is very important. However, as you grow as a person and begin to understand the basic functions of foods, you can adapt your nutrition and eat healthier. In time, you’ll enjoy being healthy and learn to enjoy the wide range of foods and nutritional choices that are available to you!
